A profoundly important book, written with great intellectual integrity and wit. I recommend this book to everyone I have occasion to speak about the built environment. It was reading for me in architecture school at UCB 40 years ago. I ran across it again in 2013 reread it, renewning its significance. A cherished read and visual journey.

This book is a classic, and I would consider it a 'must read', not just for anyone interested in architecture, design, anthropology, culture, sociology, or environmental engineering, but really for anyone who lives in a house, cave, or tree. It's a quick read with lots of illustrations, and I've been through it time and time again.

Exactly what you'd expect.

I've owned several copies of this book. I used to give them away because I thought the content should be known and appreciated by everyone. But the book got too expensive to give away, so now I have this copy to keep. I am an architect - learned more from this book than any other source. Given current understanding of climate change, we need now more than ever to learn from these models of using indigenous landforms, weather patterns, and materials to build intelligent and comfortable buildings.

A seminal work that architects and architecture students must read at least once in her/his lifetime ...

This is by far the best cookbook I've seen for the Instant Pot and similar devices. The recipes are interesting, clever and well thought out with an international flare. Might it be a little intimidating for a newbie? Maybe, but persevere and it will be worthwhile and you will learn a lot as you go. I've been using my IP since 2014; Yet, today is the first day I attempted Salmon in the IP. ( I usually make it Sous Vide.) Melissa's Caramel Salmon looked so good I thought I'd give it a try. Frankly, I didn't think I was reading the instructions right, or maybe they left out something, because one of the basics of IP cooking is to always have 1 cup of water in the bottom so it comes to pressure.....But the liquid in the ingredients came to about 5 1/2 tablespoons and the juice of 1/2 lime.....not even enough to cover the bottom of the pot, but, that Salmon was wonderful, with great flavor and texture. I'll certainly be making that again....amazing....I was surprised and happy to see an IP version of Maqluba, a Middle Eastern dish that is time and labor intensive. This is a dish I probably would never attempt on the stove but, I can see trying Melissa's version. Going to hunt down some lamb necks for the Lamb Tagine with Apricots and Olives.There are so many outstanding recipes in this book. The Coconut Curry Chicken looks delicious. Really good instructions for making yogurt in the IP and I like that she does not shy away from using some heavy creme (optional) which really adds to the richness. There are the recipes you expect to see like Chili, pulled pork but, with a Cuban twist, brisket Korean style and of course baby back ribs. I'm looking to try the Duck Confit....There is a Green Persian rice with Tahdig that looks like something you'd see in Ottolenghi books. I'm so bad...I just ordered the non-stick liner for the IP so I can try this and a few others like the Maqluba that looks like it would be easier to unmold in a non stick liner. I didn't even mention the recipes for the soups, risottos, egg and the bean dishes. If you like desserts there is a nice assortment of puddings. I can't say enough nice things about this book. I hope there is a volume 2......

I’ve made Osso Bucco and the Beef Barley Vegetable Soup and both came out great. Keep in mind the title “Dinner in an Instant” doesn’t mean these recipes are fast, just made in an “Instant” pot. Most of the recipes also have alternative instructions in case you want to use a slow cooker aka crockpot instead.So glad to find an IP cookbook that doesn’t rely on ingredients like cans of cream of mushroom soup.Update 11/10/17: I’m still really enjoying this cookbook! I’ve started cooking something from this book each weekend then saving the leftovers for lunches or freezing the leftovers if I don’t get around to eating them in within a few day.The beef and bean chili is a winner. Just made the Vietnamese Chicken + Rice soup tonight and it was delicious. I’ve also been using the recipes for making bone broth, soft and hard boiled eggs, dulce de leche, and steel cut oats.I think there is a good chance that I could end up making almost every recipe in this cookbook - something I don’t really do with other cookbooks, Will definitely check out this authors other books!

I love this book. I’ve made three recipes so far (butter braised potatoes, chicken curry, and black beans with chiles) and they all turned out absolutely delicious. And the time estimates are fairly accurate (given that I prep as I go). I was using my instant pot regularly before, but now I absolutely love it. There aren’t a million recipes, but the ones in the book are carefully selected. I tend to collect cookbooks and this is one of the best I’ve found. Fantastic recipes with approachable ingredients.Update: I’ve continued to use this cookbook with excellent results. I made the Vietnamese chicken soup and the chicken and dumplings. Both were made after a busy day at work and were simple, but absolutely delicious. I have dozens of cookbooks and this one may be my absolute favorite. Great food that’s easy to prepare (I’ve mostly been able to prep as I cook) and tastes amazing. If I could give it more than five stars I would. I’m looking forward to making the broccoli rabe with white beans next. This is one of the few cookbooks where every recipe is a possibility (excluding the recipes with beef and lamb, which I do not eat). I may end up cooking my way through the book.My only minor complaints are that I wish she had included times for common varieties of dried beans (similar to the rice section) and that she would note in the ingredient list if the quantity will be divided (I’ve been adding my own note after dumping in the full amount of butter or oil before realizing it was supposed to be part).

Definitely not a book for anyone who doesn't already have a firm grasp of Russian. Coyne and Fisun make sure to point out that caution needs to be exercised when using some slang words, which I very much appreciate. It's a book that's up to date with our modern world, so while it's definitely full of cursing, it's also full of phrases for talking about smartphones and more political matters. I would say this guide is a good mix of conversational Russian and curse words/more obscene slang. The pronunciation and grammatical reminders are useful and ensure that any phrase you utter is uttered correctly. I also really appreciated the interjections about cultural differences between Americans and Russians, which would help anyone navigate social situations. It's a pretty comprehensive guide, but again, definitely not for someone who doesn't know any Russian.

I checked it out from my local library, but liked it so much I had to get a copy to keep.

Not sure what the one star reviews are going on about. If you're a student of the language, you'll likely appreciate this book.

Impulse shopping at B&N. Should have known better. I bought a book on language, not a political pamphlet. Why on earth would you write a book on Russian language and bash Russians? Embarrasing!

Don't waste your money. Totally unworthy. The authors try to pretend that they know Russian culture and slung whereas they are clueless.

I have been watching the video and then following along with the book...it is just outstanding. The details and the sense of being on the trip with Adam Hamilton is very touching as he takes us through the last 24 hours in the life of Jesus. It's heart breaking and fullfilling all at the same time. At no other time has the scarafice of one done more for humanity than Jesus going to the cross...this is truly a message meant to remind us all of what God did so that one day we could be in heaven...where there will no longer be suffering, hurt, pain or any kind of agony that Jesus felt as he was betrayed, beaten, emptied, hurt, ridiculed, spit upon and eventually placed on a cross to die for all of OUR sins...JESUS did NOTHING wrong EVER. The mission of Jesus was to be an example for us and how we should live. This book lets you know in no uncertain terms the greatness of love from GOD for ALL of us. I will never be able to make the trip to see the sites of those precious hours...yet after viewing the video and reading the book I feel I have been on the journey. Praise God for the gift he gave to Adam Hamilton to be able to bring all of this journey to people like me and others. This book is truly outstanding and makes one think of all the things we often take for granted.

These, DVD and study guide, along with the 40-day devotion book, and the other book, are the most interesting, enlightening, educational piece of work I've seen about the Easter story. Pastor Hamilton didn't try to tell the Bible story in a new way, but took us to the places where the events could have happened and made you feel like you could have been there and experienced it in a deeper way. What a gift he gave us explaining the gift God gave us, and still gives us. I really liked this for a Lenten study.My most favorite part was talking about how Jesus gave his life for us (which we all knew). But, who was the very FIRST person that Jesus gave His life for? It was Barabbas. Pilate could have spared Jesus and crucified Barabbas if Jesus had simply said so. But, our Lord stayed quiet to allow His fathers will to be done.

Video shows too little scenery. While there are a few shots of the area, video relies mainly upon author remaining stationary and repeating verbiage from the book. (The book, by the way, was excellent). Video did little to enhance an excellent book!

Used for bible study so easy to apply. Not bad. Combination of trip, preaching, and question answer sessions. It is helpful if you add your own background study to help people to see the big picture.

This is very inciteful. It's great to be able to actually see the places talked about in the book.

Our small group just completed this study. Adam Hamilton is a great writer and communicator. I would recommend this book/study guide to anyone looking to enrich the Easter season.

We saw Balto at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This was a great follow up for my son.

My 7 year old son enjoyed this book very much.

It was a disappointment after reading her first book "Legend of the Ghost Dog". I found myself becoming bored with the plothalf way through.

My son loved this book and it was an easy read for him. He said, "...it was adventurous, fun and exciting!"

Few children in the lower 48 know the history of the Alaskan Iditarod race. It is a very interesting piece of history. The story was entertaining as well.
