Lynn Nottage won her second Pulitzer Prize for this play in 2017 (her first was for Ruined in 2009). This play is set in 2008 in Reading, PA, and tells the stories of several individuals (black, white, and Hispanic -- all born in Reading). Most of the action takes place in several flashback scenes to 2000, where life has become increasingly difficult due to mills and factories closing down without new work coming in. The decline in jobs, wages and benefits hits the community hard, and workers turn against each other. Other problems ensue.Ms. Nottage has a deep understanding of human struggles and a strong ear for dialogue. There are several plot surprises. As in many of her other plays, she wants the audience to think, rather than to feel good.11/2/2018 Update: Saw it staged in Philadelphia last week. It was wonderfully rendered. It comes across much better on the stage. It's worth five stars when watching (as they are meant to be). It received a very rare standing ovation from me.

Definitely one of the best plays I've ever read, it's well crafted and speaks to the everyday man. I love how this book goes to the core of the anger that is plaguing America. The anger of the working man and how he ends up taking it out on the wrong person when in essence the corporations are the ones screwing everyone.

I taught this in my high school scene study course this year. It is a phenomenal script that is incredibly relevant to today's world. My teenagers - a mix of white, black, and latinx students - found this to be a great conversation starter about race issues. The script allowed us to explore controversial issues and difficult subjects in a way that everyone felt safe. Definitely a must read for up and coming theatre students.

Superb writing. It must have been a gripping theatreexperience, but all of that comes through in justthe reading of the script. I felt, at the last page,that I had actually seen a production of the playitself.

Great play about real people in real situations. Fantastic read, and plenty of great monologues for older women, black women, and black men.

In her latest offering, Victoria Bylin takes on two very heavy issues: abortion and STDs. Not the typical stuff found in contemporary Christian romance, but both issues are tastefully handled and point to the fact we all need a savior. Some people may shy away from this book because of the topic, but I really hope most people won’t. Bylin doesn’t glorify the sexual promiscuity of her characters. She shows the real consequences that occur as a result of it. Too many books today glorify sex outside of marriage, where the characters can hop into bed with one person after another and never face any negative consequences. But reality is there are often dire consequences for believing the lie, “It’s my body and I can do what I want with it.” Bylin shows us that side. Ultimately, it is a multi-faceted love story between a man and a woman, between family, between friends, and between God and his creation. Five-stars for a great love story and for tackling two heavy topics.

Wow what a book. I have loved all of Victoria’s contemporary novels. This one is by far my favorite. MJ is a single mom moving back to Riley Wyoming when she meets Shane. He is a recovering from a knee injury. As they grow closer together, You can just see how God is working within both of them. Along with a wonderful cast of supporting characters each of whom have their own struggles. They come together in the most wonderful ways. This is a must read.

I just finished “When He Found Me” and WOW, what a ride!!! I loved the flawed people and their struggles! The 2nd chances, the hope and the faith that Victoria wove through all the pain, heartache....I felt every thing that MJ, Shane, Cody, Daisy, Lyn and Olivia went through! I am a fan forever of Victoria’s wonderful books. Keep them coming!!!

Wow, what an incredible story! I was sucked in from the first page and hated to put the book down! This review may be a bit on the short side, simply because I don't know if I can find the words to do this beautiful book justice. This story is told in alternating POV from the perspectives of MJ, her mother Olivia, Shane, and his sister Daisy, and I was captivated by all of their stories! This book has it all, tremendous depth, a lovely romance, forgiveness, reconciliation, characters that become like friends to the reader, a strong faith story, love, hope, new beginnings, I could go on and on! Words truly cannot express how much I loved this book! Without giving too much away I will just say that this is a book that everyone, especially every woman should read! I can't recommend When He Found Me highly enough, read it and your life will be impacted for the better! Such a wonderful, amazing read, and I can't wait for the next novel in the Road to Refuge series!Note: While there is nothing graphic in this book, the subject matter is very raw and real. For this reason I don't recommend this one for readers under the age of 16.I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Loved this book! Got it for my wife as an additional Christmas present because she can have an attitude. She didn't appreciate it of course. But I got a great laugh. Quality product too. Hard pages like those of children's books. You know, the thick card board type that won't bend. Just be careful though. Those super thick pages makes this a blunt object so make sure to duck.

Women who are willing and able financially to work at home as homemakers and mothers deserve our respect and support. My generation was discouraged from considering this opportunity. In fact, many high schools have discontinued offering home economics courses. I believe both sexes should have the opportunity to learn this subject matter in order to prepare for their adult responsibilities. Yes, the author lays it on pretty thick - instructing wives to place their husbands high above them selves. What is done by a wife for the welfare of her husband and children matters.

This is a great book to have conversation about the good old days. Read it out loud for your friends and see the expressions on the faces of both the men and the women. I find there is a different reaction depending on the gender.

Book is literally 9 pages. Made of cardboard like a toddler's book.

My husband has wanted this book for a couple of years now. So I purchased it for him for Christmas this year. It was better than I expected. The pages were nice and thick and came here without a single imperfection! I would definitely order from this company again!
