This is a concise little book that will make a great addition to the other materials I use for Confirmation prep. The lessons cover everything from does God really exist to confession and the what actually happens during the sacrament of confirmation. If you have seen any of the other YouCat books, the illustrations are the same with stick figures and not so many words on a page as to be intimidating to kids who may not be the best of readers. The situations that are used to explain faith concepts are interesting for the kids and most meet them where they are in their life. There are references to scripture in the margins and this is a great way to get kids familiar with the Bible and teach them how to find things in the Bible. This may sound as if the students in my class have never been catechized before, but once a week CCD even for eight years is not enough to make them comfortable with the Faith unless there is re-enforcement at home. This book is a great help to reach kids where they are.
As DRE I am very pleased with the YOUCAT Confirmation Student Book. It is very well put together and makes an easy transition to the Bible and the YOUCAT. Would highly recommend to any Confirmation program.
Remember this requires the Youcat, as it is a supplement. It refers you to the Youcat.
