About the Author

Alan Robertson grew up hunting, fishing, and helping build the family business in the 1970s and ’80s. Alan left Duck Commander when he received the call for ministry in 1988 and served as a senior pastor in West Monroe, Lousiana, until 2012, when he rejoined the Duck Commander clan. The Duck Commander Devotional INTRODUCTION THE WORD OF God has been a constant in the Robertson home since Dad became a Christian almost forty years ago. Whether we were discussing and debating at the dinner table, teaching in a small-group setting, or sharing with someone who doesn’t know the Lord, the Bible has been very near and dear to our family. Like every family, we get busy with life and need regular reminders to read, meditate on God’s Word, and apply it to our daily lives. Because our family understands this need, we wanted to write a daily devotional book to help guide others to the life-changing power found in Scripture. Dad’s parents, Granny and Pa, helped us buy our home place on the river and lived next door to us when Dad became a Christian. They were retiring and wanted to fish, hunt, grow gardens, and be close to family in their later years. They also had a divine appointment to teach our family a lot of scripture. God knew that our family needed them nearby to help guide our young family in our Christian walk. They were totally committed to studying the Bible and shared so much of what they discovered with our whole family. Forty years ago, our two homes on the Ouachita River were guided by the Scripture, and that foundation has now grown to seven homes, with many more on the horizon as the Robertson family continues to grow. This book is really dedicated to Granny and Pa and the legacy they continue to grow in us concerning our love for the Bible. We are all very excited about sharing some of our favorite passages and why they are special to us. You’ll find that some of the chosen passages are repeated by other family members—that’s because some of the same passages have significantly impacted different people in our family. If you have watched our television show, you know how much we like to talk and expound on things, and this devotional book is no different. You will find some lengthy passages that don’t need a lot said about them because there isn’t much to add to the power that God has instilled. You’ll also find other passages that spark a memory from our past, a challenge for our present, or a hope for our future. It is our prayer that those sentiments will bless your day and your spiritual walk. We encourage you to read through the passage, message, and prayer more than once during the day and allow God’s Word to bless you and guide you in your daily walk with Him. We also challenge you to change whatever needs to be changed in your life to act in line with the truth of God’s Word. God says that his Word is active and sharp and was written to impact, shape, and transform lives and lifestyles. This devotional is a very easy read...and does not go very deep into spiritual thinking. The daily lessons are straight-to-the-point and clear. Each devotion can be completed in less than one minute. I am a duck hunter...so the connection is obvious for me. If you just want a simple daily spiritual idea...this is the book for you.

It was an okay devotional. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it were the only one I was using. but the constant comparisons to what else I was learning each day weren't helpful. I might give this another shot at another time, but it probably won't be one I return to with any regularity.

I love this book. I actually have bought this book and gifted it and then replaced it three times. The devotionals are written in such a simpiistic style that even a child could understand them. I love the Robertson family, and find their devotion to spreading the Love of God to be one of the most inspirational forces on this earth. Thank you, Al, for a wonderful book. My family likes the fact that it is written in a style which makes it reusable from year to year. It is now on its third repetition in my home. God bless you and your ministry of service to Him.This book was a personal purchase and was not given to me as review.

I ordered myself this devotional because I so admire the Robertson family and others on Duck Dynasty. I have two grandsons that are avid hunters so I decided to order one for each of them. They were so happy to receive these devotionals and both said they couldn't wait for January 1 to start them. I felt the same way. I started with this devotional on 1/1/14 and can honestly say it is one of the best devotional books I have ever owned, and I've owned plenty over the years. It has blessed me each day and brought me closer to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you Duck Dynasty for writing this awesome devotional. I will use it each day for years. I highly recommend this devotional to anyone who wants a blessing each day! It is wonderful!!!

I was surprised by the genuine reflections given by Duck Commander family members. The prologue was also very interesting with the short bio of everyone in the family. It is easy to see that this family is devoted to their walk with Jesus. I love forward to daily reading the scripture and the devotions by the Duck Commander family.

My husband loves this. Our pastor handed them out during a men's retreat. He didn't have one left for himself so we got him one used. My husband is dyslexic and doesn't like to read because it hurts his eyes and head. He enjoys this so much he reads it anyway. He sometimes reads a day aloud to me. This devotional has a lot of meat. It has sparked heart felt discussions between my husband and I which have made us closer.

Do not like the way book is written...Hard read...not as organized and open as should be...I am not happy with it. There needs to be a book out called, "GTA V For Dummies"...Usually those Dummie books are better reading and layout...

Had the GTA San Andreas guide by these guys. That one was so in-depth in regards to the missions it would break you down on exactly how & when to do what at each point in a mission. This guide for GTAV sucks. Missions are nothing but a basic overview. Not really any helpful strategy tips for those hard-to-figure-out parts within the missions. Would have given GTASA guide 5 stars 'cuz itWas soooo in-depth & soooo well put together. This gets two 'cuz it's a helpful tourist map for cruising this world & finding stuff, but not for help with beating the game. Maybe they didn't actually play it. IDK. But step it up yo!!

I've been buying Brady Games walkthroughs for over a decade; I've purchased a walkthrough for each GTA release and will continue to as long as the franchise continues. I was very stoked to find the guide online for less than $16.00; this guide retails at about $29-$39 for a used book and $45+ brand new. My book was not only less than $20.00 after shipping costs but was also brand spanking NEW. These guides can be resold if they're well cared for. Definitely a great guide if you want to see ALL that the game has to offer and it also helps you to complete the game with 100% accuracy.

This guide was incredibly helpful! It gives some great tips and walkthroughs of the main missions, but it's real draw is the in-depth information about the many, many sidequests that the game has to offer. With multiple maps pinpointing collections, stunt jump locations, and exact locations of things needed to complete the side missions, it's well worth the money. And unlike Prima Guides, Brady Guides always tend to have a minimum of missing or incorrect information.

Great guide, especially helpful for such a robust game. Yes, there are online guides and the social club, but it's nice to have a regular reference with tips-- especially for those wanting to earn gold medals.Note that my version does contain random typos and incorrect images, but I picked up my guide on the release date, so these should be fixed in later publications [hopefully]. Definitely not a show-stopper.

This guide is, without question, imperative to completing the game %100. Gta 5 is probably THE best game ever made, but having the strategy guide makes it that much better!

This book has it all. Every mission, every side mission, explanations on the characteristics of the weapons, cars, helicopters etc. etc.If you want to complete GTA V with 100%, including all the bonus and side missions then this book will save you hours of hunting around or just stumbling upon things.Recommended.

I don't know why i bought this when I can go on the internet and look up any thing i want to about this game. I bought it most likely because i was in the heat of the moment and was excited about the game, It has a bunch of pictures of where the little treasures are hidden and where other things are!

This has become one of my favorite books in my craft library. For the first time ever, I actually read an instructional sewing book cover to cover rather than just browsing the pretty photos. And then I started trying the projects.Layered, Tattered and Stitched: A Fabric Art Workshop has 20 different projects by mixed media artist Ruth Rae. In each project she steps you through making collages using materials such as fabric, transparencies, paper, rubber stamps, paint, wire, beads, lace and metal. Her style has the elements I adore in fabric collage - frayed edges, burns, lots of stitching in messy rows, along with fabulous texture and color combinations.She starts out with a brief 2 pages on materials, but it's enough for you to figure out what she's using and where to buy your own. She also explains how she dyes fabric or cuts certain materials. It's not in-depth, but experienced crafters and sewists will not need that level of detail.The 20 projects include things such as cards, gift wrap, a journal, wall hangings, doll & clothes, banner, apron, wrist cuff, and a photo frame. I loved her construction techniques for the apron with buttonholes rather than ties, and her book binding techniques are next up on my list of things to try. The instructions are easy to follow, although she focuses more on the techniques, not the actual materials. She expects you to create similar projects in your own style, rather than making things exactly like hers. I love that idea. But...she does provide patterns and even a couple of pages of clip art if you want to closely emulate items as pictured in the book.I was so inspired by this book, I have already made several of these projects in my own style and plan to make more stuff using techniques from the book.What I liked: * gorgeous photos of art quilt and fabric collage items * simple instructions * excellent techniques using various materials * encourages your own creativity - use the projects as a jumping off point * unique yet practical projectsWhat was missing?: * doesn't discuss layout design or color theory of collageOther things to know: * sewing techniques are not covered, it is assumed you know how to use your machine already * If you like the style of Ruth Rae, you will love the book. But if you're not a fan of the tattered style, this may not be a good book for you.

Full color photos and nice narratives. A wonderful incubator for artistic ideas. Projects from small to large using what one might have in their piece bin. I liked this very much. After reading it fully,I still peek at in several times a week. You know a book is good when you do not just stuff it away on your book shelf.

Layered, Tattered & Stitched by Ruth Rae is perfect for both the beginner and advanced textile artist. The book itself is put together beautifully, balancing the technical with the aesthetic. With over eighteen projects, Rae guides the reader with clear instructions and photographs to not only complete the projects presented, but to learn new skills and artistry to incorporate into their own artwork. The author generously shares a variety of techniques with the reader, drawing upon her experience in not only fabric, but mixed media and jewelry design. Additional tips and wisdom are sprinkled throughout the book to include safety guidelines when using certain materials, effects and products as well as a thorough list of specific tools and supplies which are needed to complete the projects. Rae also gives insight into breathing new life into the artist's existing cache and methods of up-cycling substrates into new art. Layered, Tattered & Stitched is a must have for anyone who would like to or currently works in the mixed media and fiber arts.

Being a crafter/hobbyist/fiber artist, I have always been on the lookout for instructional material that will inspire my creativity to the max. This is certainly one of those books. Miss Rae takes fabric to the next level and creates work that is useable, wearable and functional....a very gifted lady. This is one resource I will definitely have close at hand for many future projects.

Reset Your Child's Brain has transformed my children in ways I couldn't have even imagined four weeks ago. I am embarrassed to say that my 3 and 7 year old boys were playing the iPad up to 10 hours a day (they each had their own. I can't even believe that, but they did). I had suspected for some time that the iPad was particularly disruptive to my 3 year old, but I truly didn't think I could 'survive' without the quiet that the tablets provided. How would I get anything done? What would the kids DO with all that time? After googling 'is the iPad bad for kids' and stumbling upon Dr. Dunckley's website and book, I made the decision then and there to take it away. We actually started the fast before I was able to read thr book! The results have been dramatic with my 3 year old.We went from:- 3-5 meltdowns a day- struggling with transitions between activities (putting the iPad down to eat, bathe, leave the house, go to bed, etc),- aggression towards his 1 year old brother,- and just general instability in his personality (constantly walking on eggshells around him)to a child who:- has 1 meltdown or less per day (he routinely has days without meltdowns and it's MUCH more mild when it does happen),- transitions are no longer an issue and do not cause meltdowns- he plays gently and enthusiastically with his younger brother; he even asks if he can hold the baby now!- his personality is so much more even keeled; small things no longer set him off or trigger meltdownsMy 7 year old used to routinely complain how BORED he was (after he had watched every video he was remotely interested in on YouTube). I would say "You have a room full of toys your never play with. Go find something." and he would respond with how boring ALL his toys were and there was nothing fun to do. He now plays enthusiastically with his toys, pretending with everything from Star Wars to building with blocks, to drawing (without using the iPad to think of things to draw). We now have a stash of board games to play in the evenings rather than stare at screens and I've found that I absolutely TREASURE the extra time I spend engaged with them. It sounds sappy, but it's true. I was so worried that taking the iPads away would mean so much more work for me, finding things to keep them occupied and it first, it was more work. But 4 weeks in, they now find their own activities to keep them busy and entertained. I can't believe what a complete turnaround it's been for us. This book was a lifesaver for my family.

I cannot express how grateful I am for this book! I was skeptical at first but tried out the suggestions as a last ditch effort and I really can see it transformed our son's mood and behavior.My 4 year old (about to turn 5 next month) had been acting up quite a bit over the last year, and generally was very moody and temperamental. He was having daily tantrums and outbursts, at home and at pre-school, and his teachers were concerned about his behavior too (he was very defiant, and once even threw a shoe at his teacher when she asked him to put on his coat!) He always seemed on edge, would have meltdowns often, and easily upset by even the smallest thing. We were walking on eggshells around him, embarrassed by his outbursts, and constantly wondering what small thing would set him off next. Our family life is otherwise pretty calm and stable so we just couldn't understand where all this was coming from. After one very upsetting tantrum he had at a relative's home, my husband and I were convinced there was an undiagnosed issue, perhaps adhd or defiance disorder or bipolar ("Dr" Google certainly wasn't helping us, as everything we looked up seemed to describe him). I knew deep down there was my sweet little boy but his behavior was not aligning with who we knew him to be and I was certain this was not normal and we needed to do something to help him.We were feeling defeated and at our wit's end. I was about to make an appointment with his pediatrician to look into having him screened for mood disorders, when that same day through serendipity and grace I came across a link to one of the author's articles online, and then immediately ordered this book and started reading it. Everything described seemed to fit my child exactly, but I was still skeptical. It seemed impossible that something as simple as reducing screen time would cause such a drastic and dramatic difference in moods.Plus, our son didn't have much screen time (or so I thought-- it actually ended up being close to an hour or two daily when we really tracked it) and besides, as we justified to ourselves, he only did iPad educational games. To my amazement (and horror) I found out those "stimulating" and "mind strengthening" games we thought were good for his brain were the root of the problem. We had been pretty careful about limiting passive television, but had no idea that the interactive games on the iPad were even worse!! This was a real eye opener! I wish this was common knowledge.Anyway, before I even finished reading the book, I hid his iPad on a high shelf and took away all other screen time, cold turkey. I figured it was worth a shot before we went down the formal diagnosis or medicinal route.The first couple of days were tricky, as we felt like we had to entertain him a lot more. But I had stocked up on fun coloring books and new toys like Jenga and dominos to offer him anytime he asked for the iPad. We actually didn't discuss the screen fast with him prior to beginning, as I wanted to avoid a meltdown and thought making a big to-do about it would make him focus more on not having the iPad. Instead I just removed all screens without notice while he slept and anytime he asked for it I told him "not right now" and distracted him with something else fun to do. He's young enough that we still have full control over his access to screens. I imagine the older the child the more difficult the removal may be.After the first couple of days our son stopped asking for the iPad and I couldn't believe how easy that transition actually ended up being. To my amazement he started to come up with activities to entertain himself as the days went on. I didn't hear "I'm bored" like I used to and he'd find ways to play with toys in creative ways (for example, using pieces from his art set to act out a soccer match, or arranging his dinosaurs to act out a story). His focus improved significantly too as the days went on. Just yesterday he spent half an hour engrossed in playing with his trainset on his own. This used to never happen before the screen fast, except for when he was playing on the iPad (which was part of the reason why we relied on it since it would keep his attention when we needed some time to get stuff done). We used to use the iPad during meal times too, as a way to keep him seated and distracted enough to be fed during dinner. Dinnertime was challenging at first during the screen fast, but now he seems to be eating better and actually aware of what's going on during dinnertime, not lost in a screen. It's more a social experience now, as eating should be.The most incredible change has been his overall mood. I am simply without words to describe what an improvement he has had during the screen fast. After the first two weeks really it made a huge difference. Even his teachers were commenting on what a difference they were seeing at school, and we had not even shared with them that we were doing the screen fast. He became much more calm and happy and cooperative.I started writing down a daily log of our son's behavior just before we began the screen fast, and every day of the fast, just to record any progress made. As I look back now on my notes I am simply dumfounded. It's incredible to see the issues and behaviors we were dealing with and how quickly things turned around. I am still a bit in disbelief.Recently I went to a friend's house with my son. He played with my friend's daughter while the adults chatted. Never--not once- in his life have I been able to do that sort of thing without dealing with interruptions or meltdowns. We had become so accustomed to his moodiness and meltdowns, especially over the last year, that it's shocking now to see him be able to play happily with his friend and not get bored, not interrupt the adults, be friendly and sociable, and overall so much more easygoing.It seems so obvious now that it was the iPad stimuli causing our son's poor sleep and moodiness and meltdowns. But we certainly would not have made that realization without this book and doing the screen fast.I will recommend this book to every parent I can. I feel like overexposure to screens is such a widespread problem, especially when it comes to educational games. Well-meaning parents like myself think we are giving our children a leg up in our highly digitized world by providing them with educational digital media. We have all heard the dangers of too much passive TV, but the dangers of the educational electronic activities are certainly not as commonly known as they should be!As a parent who was all out of ideas and desperate to find solutions, this book helped our family tremendously and helped our son to reemerge as the sweet, kind, happy boy we knew him to be. It may have potentially also saved us from seeking out a medical diagnosis or medicating him for something unnecessarily.

A few characters get the comeuppances that they deserve and it is so gratifying.Was it worth going through three pretty slow books to get to some awesome? The jury is still out. For me yeah probably since Sanderson is finishing out this series and I read ~200 books a year so no biggy. But for someone else who doesn’t get to read so much and has to pick and choose probably not unless you are into extreme worldbuilding.Very excited to start the into the end with my favorite Epic Fantasy Writer the fantastic Brandon Sanderson.

Jordan must have known he was dying and didn't have much time to wrap up all the story lines of the WoT in one book, but he sure as hell tried his best. I've seen more advancing of the storyline in this book than for the past three or four books combined. Book ten was the worst book I've ever read with it's meandering nonsense from Elayne. Literally useless descriptions of a hundred nobles names, everyone's clothes, goats milk, and blaming Rand for her own actions. I was surprised to see more tactful storytelling in this book despite Elayne's horribly boring and pointless chapters which I got tired of and skipped through eventually. She is the most reprehensible character who still refuses to accept responsibility for her actions, is conceited beyond belief, and makes rash terrible decisions that get people uselessly killed and then shrugs it off as not her fault. Rand turns out to continue to make similar mistakes but Mat's story makes up for both those nincompoops! And Egwene is finally getting some more necessary character development to help her deserve her undeserved position as a leader of 200 year old witches. I mean come on shes what twenty?

I have been waiting for the pace to pick up and the plot to progress and it finally does in this book. Probably because originally there was only supposed to be one more book after this one so Jordan had to start wrapping things up. About time!!! It took me forever to start this book because I was sick to death of his writing and the slow plotting pace of the last five books! But I had made it this far and I hear that Brandon Sanderson does an excellent job and that the last three books are really good (my husband loved them, although this is his favorite book series so...). I am happy to report that this book feels more like the original books in the series, which were excellent. Stuff starts happening and instead of focusing almost exclusively on the girls, the guys get to have some "screen time." I read this book a lot faster and didn't have to resort to skipping parts like I did the last one or two books. I am so happy to be getting to the juicy end of this series!

I have read all of the books in The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, about three or four times now. I am currently on kKnife of Dreams and I'm excited to purchase the rest of the collection. If you've never read these books and you love fantasy, please, pick up the first book in the series "Eye of the World." I promise halfway through the first book you'll be hooked!

"Knife of Dreams" is the 11th book in the "Wheel of Time" series, and I was pleasantly surprised that Jordan started to pull things together in this book compared to the previous one.Many people claim female characters in the series are weak, but I thought Jordan did a great job of adding dimension to Egwene's character as she faces her custody in the White Tower and her punishments for refusing to yield to Eladia's command. She is subjected to severe penance, but embraces it in Aiel fashion with great honor. In addition, I also thought Nynaeve grew immensely in this book in her relationship with Lan, and there was an awesome scene involving Lan and his destiny in the story.After meandering for the last two books, I thought Jordan did pleasing advanced the story arcs of Perrin/Faile, Mat/Tuon, and Elayne while including and some battles with trollocs and the Black Ajah. Rand's story also advanced, although it is a bit slower since so much focus was on the other main characters.I've already finished book 12, and I can tell you the story is really getting exciting now! I thought Jordan really got the story back on track with book 11, and Sanderson cranks things up in the remaining books. It is so worth the long read if you've been involved since the first book in the series!

An enjoyable read about the start of Henry Tudor's reign which I gave something close to 4 stars. ( rounded up) I liked the " Margaret "chapters much the best, although Joanna Hickson explained how little is known about Henry's exile. I found it difficult to go back and forth between the two accounts and am sure it was a difficult task for an author.Henry VII is not my favorite king, but hopefully the last chapter where he explains himself very gracefully sheds a more hopeful light for a sequel about his marriage to Elizabeth. Those years are sort of sparse on authentic historical narrative also. I am anxiously awaiting another book being in the works.

This book more than met my expectations. I enjoy reading about this period of English history. As a fictional work it seemed to hold to the facts while presenting very readable accounting of Henry VII's rise to the throne.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am fascinated about the whole Beaufort/Tudor thing. I have read one historical fiction book on how the whole Beaufort line got started with a love affair, then I read another historical fiction book on Henry VII's wife and her life with Henry and Margaret Beaufort. This book is about a young Henry (about 14 years old) and his mother and the events from his fleeing England to when he came back in 1485 and concludes pretty much with the battle of Bosworth field. It was an interesting read about how the two of them had to try and survive when Lancastrians were dying all around them and Henry was the last man standing even though he was not descended from the male line. Good read. Gives you an appreciation of how they managed to survive.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Such fine writing and a terrific story told from the POV of Henry Tudor and his mother, Margaret Beaufort. I read this in a few days, it was so engaging, whether from Henry's perspective or that of his mother, whose sole goal in life is to see her exiled son on the English throne, rather than the "usurper," King Richard III.

A monster has been created, because I want to devour all of the books related to this one, by this author! The history is accurate overall and the characters are real for the reader. What more could one ask? No boring textbook this!

Thanks to NetGalley and to Harper Collins UK for providing me an ARC copy of this novel that I freely chose to review.I must start by saying that although I’ve been reading more historical fiction recently, I am not an expert on the subject, and I know a bit more about other historical periods than about the rise to power of Henry VII of England. I was familiar with the bare facts and, like many people, knew of Richard III through Shakespeare’s play. So, please take my comments about historical accuracy with a pinch of salt (I might be totally wrong!).I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I had not read any of Joanna Hickson’s previous books but thought this would be an opportunity to familiarise myself with the period and to discover her writing. The book follows the adventures of Henry Tudor, whom we meet as a youth, as he escapes England with his uncle Jasper Owen, and also his mother’s, Lady Margaret Beaufort, who is left in the unenviable position of being widowed and a known supporter of the losing side (the House of Lancaster) in the new court of Edward IV (of the House of York). The chapters, written in first person from the points of view of the two protagonists, alternate as required by the action (at times we might have several chapters from Margaret’s point of view, and towards the end, when Henry returns to England, while his mother is confined to her husband’s household, we have several from his point of view), and we also have access to their epistolary interaction (as many years passed before they set eyes on each other).To begin with I was overwhelmed by the large cast of characters, some with pretty complex titles and similar names, but the book offers a Family Tree and a Map at the beginning, that allow us to follow some of the intricacies of the relationships and to better understand the movements of the characters, and a glossary at the end, that includes definitions of some of the historical terms in use and others relevant to the story (some French and Welsh words that are introduced in the action). (Those who access the story in e-book format should be able to find most of the terms in the dictionary included with the e-reader). Do not be put off by talk of historical terms, as the language used in the story, although not jarringly modern or inadequate to the times, is easy to follow, flows well and feels completely natural to the setting and the situation.As for the characters… I liked Margaret from the very beginning. Even though her circumstances are miles and centuries apart from most of us, it is easy to empathise with a woman who has lost her husband, is separated from her son, and has to make difficult decisions in order to survive and to further the cause of her son. She is intelligent, astute, determined, but also caring, generous, and kind-hearted. She takes on the children of noblemen and women who have lost their lives in the war or fallen on hard times (perhaps as a way of compensating for the loss of her son), and she is presented as a woman particularly attuned to the difficulties and tragedies other women are faced with. She is a staunch supporter of her son, schemes and puts herself at great risk, at times, to try and further his cause.I found the early chapters from Henry’s point of view, less interesting. Although he finds himself in dire situations, he is too young to fully understand what is happening, and he gets side-tracked at times and behaves like a boy his age, no matter what fate might have in store for him. This is as it should be and shows the skill of the writer, who presents Henry as somebody aware of his position but also a young boy with much to learn, not only about becoming a king but also about life in general. The book is, in part, his coming-of-age story (including a romance, which the author explains in her note at the end, she made up), but as he grows, he comes into his own and ends up being the one to drive the action. Whatever our opinion of the historical events of the time, his life in exile, always at risk of assassination due to his bloodline, the early loss of his father and the forced separation from his mother make him another character easy to side with. The fact that we see the story from his point of view, and have no insight into Richard III or his actions (other than third-hand through comments and gossip from others) adds to our enjoyment of the story as it is told, although I found that, like Margaret, we come to appreciate some of the members of the York House (Edward IV, his wife, and his daughter, Elizabeth of York) and, like the country, we see that politics and alliances can be difficult to fathom and understand without full knowledge of the circumstances.There are enigmatic characters (Margaret’s husband, Lord Stanley, is fascinating and plays his cards very well, although he is not heroic in the standard sense), and the novel offers us a good sense of the complexity of the historical period, of what passed for diplomacy at the time (that might include marrying somebody to further one’s claims to land, power, and titles), and of how easily somebody’s luck can turn. Survival was complicated in such a period, no matter who you were (in fact, it might be more difficult if you were of royal blood), and knowing how to present yourself and who to choose as your ally could be (and often was) a matter of life or death.The author includes recent discoveries (like Richard III’s body being unearthed from a Leicester’s car park) and research to bring to life Bosworth Battle (or Redemore Battle, if we were trying to be more precise). The scene is set in detail and she manages to convey the brutality of it and the tactical elements. Richard III’s determination also comes through, and no matter what we might think of him as a person, it seems he was a brave and determined fighter.The ending, which is satisfying (of course, not surprising), leaves us with Henry waiting to be crowned and talking about his marriage, after having finally been reunited with his mother. In her note, the author tells us she plans more books with Margaret as a character, and she explains her first-hand research (including visiting some of the Bretton and French castles where Henry spent his youth, and the Battle of Bosworth Heritage site, which sounds like a must for anybody interested in the topic), and the books and sources she has accessed. She also explains which liberties she took with the story and how much she made up (very little is known of Henry’s life in France), and it did not sound excessive, considering this is not intended as a history book but as a novel.In sum, I enjoyed learning more about this historical period; I felt the first-person narration made it easier to get invested in the fates of the characters and enjoyed the mixture of politics and action. I recommend it to people interested in this historical period, lovers of historical fiction and all things Tudor, and to fans of the author. I will keep my eye on future releases and will check her other books.

A different perspective on the Tudor ascension to the crown. I enjoyed reading the perspectives between Margaret and Henri - I am hoping for a next installment.

This was done very well. Really enjoyed this book, it felt like you were with Henry thru his long journey.
